Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Permanent Secretary Maambo Hamaundu praised the Institute of Directors Zambia (IoDZ) for its 25 years of fostering ethical leadership and accountability in Zambia.
Speaking at the IoDZ Directors' Dinner held on 13th December 2024 at the Quorum Hotel in Lusaka, on behalf of Hon. Gary Nkombo, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Hamaundu emphasized the institute's pivotal role in shaping the country's governance landscape and driving socio-economic development.
In his address, Hamaundu highlighted that corporate governance is essential for strengthening decision-making, building trust, and empowering communities. He noted that good governance not only supports private corporations but also enhances public institutions and local authorities, ultimately contributing to Zambia’s progress.

“The government recognizes the importance of partnerships like those with IoDZ, as they help to build stronger institutions that contribute to a prosperous Zambia,” Hamaundu said.
He also spoke on the ongoing collaboration between IoDZ and the Ministry of Justice, particularly the IoDZ Bill, which is set to formalize corporate governance frameworks and enhance the role of directors in Zambia’s development.
Looking ahead to IoDZ’s silver jubilee in 2025, Hamaundu urged directors to continue embracing their responsibility with integrity and foresight.
“As we approach the 25th anniversary, let us reaffirm our commitment to the values that drive sustainable growth and shared prosperity,” he added.
IoDZ President Mirriam Chiyaba also reflected on the institute’s significant contributions over the years. In her welcome remarks, Chiyaba expressed gratitude to the IoDZ Board, management, and members for their dedication to advancing governance principles.
“As we prepare for our 25th anniversary celebrations, we celebrate not only our past successes but also the future we are shaping,” she said. “Together, we can continue to drive excellence and leadership that positively impacts Zambia’s socio-economic development.”
With its silver jubilee approaching, IoDZ continues to champion transparency, accountability, and ethical leadership as pillars of governance.
