On 17th July 2024, the Institute of Directors of Zambia (IoDZ) paid a courtesy call on the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC) Director General, Charles Mungule at CEEC's head office in Lusaka to discuss a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing corporate governance across the public, private, and Small and Medium Enterprises sectors. The IoDZ delegation included members from its board of directors, underscoring the significance of the meeting.
During the meeting, Mr. Mungule emphasized CEEC's mandate to advocate for good corporate governance practices. The proposed collaboration with IoDZ aims to address corporate governance gaps in business through research, capacity building, and hands-on support.
The Director General also highlighted the importance of this initiative. "Identifying existing gaps and proactively intervening is crucial for fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and transparency in Zambia’s business landscape,” he said.
The potential partnership seeks to provide targeted interventions, including training programs and workshops, to equip Directors and Executives of SMEs, private, and public sectors with the necessary skills and knowledge to uphold high governance standards.

And IoDZ President Mirriam Chiyaba expressed great enthusiasm about the possibility of collaborating with CEEC.
“The partnership aligns perfectly with IoDZ’s vision of becoming a leading global institute in corporate governance, promoting best practices, and ensuring compliance. Additionally, it supports two of IoDZ’s key strategic pillars: Research and Thought Leadership, and Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships,” the IoDZ President remarked.
"By combining our expertise and resources we will able to generate valuable insights and knowledge that can inform policy and practice, ensuring that various sectors are actively involved in and benefit from these governance improvements,” she added.
As discussions progress, both organizations are committed to developing and implementing tailored interventions designed to meet the unique needs of different sectors. These initiatives will not only build the capacity of leaders but also create a ripple effect, leading to enhanced corporate governance practices that benefit the broader economy.
