The Institute of Directors of Zambia (IoDZ) has welcomed the launch of the National Corporate Governance Code and supporting policy documents by the Ministry of Justice at Mulungushi Conference Centre (KK Wing).

The launch took place today, 15 January 2026, and was attended by senior government officials, private sector leaders and governance professionals.

The event was graced by Guest of Honour Hon. Princess Kasune, MP, Minister of Justice, who delivered the keynote address, highlighting the importance of strong governance for national development while Mr. Patrick K. Kangwa, Secretary to the Cabinet, emphasised that effective governance frameworks are essential for public trust, institutional efficiency and investor confidence.

“This is a statement of intent. Good governance is not optional, it is key to public trust, strong institutionsand national development,” she said.

“Zambia is raising the bar. Boards and leaders must move beyond compliance and embrace governance as a tool for strategic leadership, ethical conduct and long-term value creation.”

The policies launched include the National Corporate Governance Code, Gifts and Benefits Policy, Conflict of Interest Policy, Risk Management Policy, Whistle-Blower Policy and Service Delivery Charter.

Ms. Chiyaba praised the Ministry of Justice for partnering with IoDZ in developing the Code.

“This collaborative process ensures Zambia’s governance frameworks are practical, credible and nationally owned,” she said.

She also emphasised that frameworks alone are not enough. “Policies only work when leaders take ownership. Governance must live in daily behaviour, not just in documents.”

Statements by other key stakeholders included Ms. Mukwandi Chibesakunda, Zambia National Commercial Bank CEO, on the role of the private sector in building a culture of good governance, and Ms. Daphne Chabu, Director General of the Anti-Corruption Commission, reaffirming the State’s commitment to integrity and accountability.

The launch marks a significant step in entrenching accountability, transparency, and ethical leadership in Zambia, positioning the country among global best practice in governance.
